Bioeconomy report

Presented the Tenth Edition of the Report 'The Bioeconomy in Europe', edited by the Intesa Sanpaolo Research Department in conjunction with the SPRING Cluster and ASSOBIOTEC - Federchimica. The study contains estimates on the production value and employment of the Bioeconomy in Italy, France, Germany and Spain, updated to 2023. In the period under consideration, bioeconomy-related activities in Italy generated a production value of EUR 437.5 billion, EUR 9.3 billion more than in 2022, employing around two million people.

In the four EU countries covered by the study - France, Germany, Spain and Italy - the Bioeconomy in 2023 had a total production value of EUR 1,751 billion, representing 8.4% of the total, with Spain (11%) and Italy (10%) leading the way. 

The agri-food supply chain plays a key role in this context, accounting for over 76% in Spain and France, around 63% in Italy and 61% in Germany. Technology is also a key factor in this area.
